The Limagren company, one of the leading seed producers in the world, plans to significantly increase the localization of sunflower production in Russia. If currently the process of localizing corn production has already been completed by 100%, then for sunflower the company plans to reach a level of 90% by 2026. This was stated by Andrey Medvedev, head of corn culture at Limagren.
Localization of the production of imported seeds became a requirement of the law “On Seed Production,” which came into force on September 1, 2023. The Russian government has set itself the task of producing from 50% to 95% of the seeds used in the fields (depending on the crop) domestically by 2030.
During the conference "Russian crop production. Autumn 2023", organized by Agrotrend.ru, Andrei Medvedev emphasized that the Limagren company has already been completely localized in the production of corn seeds for 2023. This means that 100% of the seeds that will be sold on the Russian market are produced domestically.
This process is carried out at the sites of the Remington factories in the Stavropol Territory and the Golden Cob. However, according to Andrey Medvedev, the company will focus on further developing the localization of sunflower production in Russia in the coming years. The company's plan is to achieve 90% localization by 2026.
Localization of seed production within the country is important for the sustainable development of the agricultural sector. This not only reduces dependence on imports, but also creates new jobs, contributing to the development of the local economy.
