According to the review by the Ministry of Economic Development on the current pricing situation, inflation in Russia slowed down to 0.06% from April 23 to May 2, which is an improvement compared to the previous week when it was 0.08%. Year-on-year, the growth rate of prices decreased from 7.82% to 7.75%. The increase in prices for food products also slowed down, from 0.13% to 0.12%.
According to the same review, the cost reduction of fruits and vegetables continues, especially prices for cucumbers and tomatoes have dropped. Prices for other food products changed by 0.19%. Meanwhile, egg and flour prices continue to decrease, while rice, oils, and dairy products show slowed price growth.
According to Rosstat data, from April 23 to May 2, cucumber prices fell by 5.7%, tomatoes by 2%, and onions by 0.3%. However, prices for beets increased by 6.3%, carrots by 4.5%, cabbage by 2.2%, potatoes by 1.3%, apples by 0.7%, and bananas by 0.2%.
Regarding eggs, their prices fell by 0.8% over ten days. Compared to the end of April, their price decreased by 0.16%, and compared to the end of last year, by 5.83%. Galina Bobyleva, the CEO of the Russian Poultry Union, recently noted that the egg market is stable and not experiencing a shortage or significant increase in demand before Easter.
Prices for chicken slightly increased by 0.08% from April 23 to May 2, but compared to the end of last year, they decreased by 4.06%. Pork prices increased by 0.72% in ten days, but compared to last December, they decreased by 0.43%. Beef prices increased by 0.4% and by 5.38% respectively. Lamb shows the most significant price growth: over ten days, its prices increased by 4.9%, and compared to the end of last year, by 16.85%.
Harun Amerkhanov, the President of the National Sheep Breeders Union, warned that in the fall-winter period, lamb prices could rise by 150-200 rubles or even more. He explained this by the stagnation of lamb production and increasing demand. Lamb prices in some regions have already reached 700-800 rubles per kilogram.
