If the EU does not ban Ukrainian grain, Hungary will extend its restrictions

The European Commission is deciding whether to extend the ban on importing Ukrainian grain. Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Romania, and Bulgaria support the extension of the ban, as they are concerned about the impact of Ukrainian grain on their own agriculture. Some countries, including Hungary, are willing to extend the ban independently. In the event of the ban being extended, Ukraine may lose export volumes and face economic difficulties. The situation highlights the complexities in agriculture and trade within the EU. The decision of the European Commission is currently unknown, but the national extension of the ban could have serious consequences for Ukraine.

If the European Commission does not extend the ban on the import of Ukrainian grain, then the Hungarian authorities intend to extend it nationally. This statement was made by the head of the office of the Prime Minister of Hungary, Gergely Gulyas. He also noted that this was necessary to protect the agriculture of the five European Union countries that support the ban.

Hungary, Slovakia, Poland, Romania and Bulgaria earlier this year obtained from Brussels a veto on grain imports from Ukraine. They expressed concern about the quality of Ukrainian grain and its impact on agriculture in their countries. In this regard, they are demanding an extension of the import ban.

Poland has also announced its intention to extend the ban, regardless of the European Commission's position on this issue. Slovakia takes a similar position.

The decision to extend the ban on the import of Ukrainian grain nationally may entail negative consequences for Ukraine. This could lead to a decrease in Ukrainian grain exports and a deterioration in the economic situation in the country.

However, Hungary and other countries supporting the ban say it is necessary to protect their agriculture and ensure food sovereignty. They believe that Ukrainian grain does not meet the necessary quality standards and can harm their agriculture.

The situation with the ban on the import of Ukrainian grain shows the difficulties faced by the countries of the European Union in the field of agriculture and trade. They must balance between protecting their own interests and supporting free trade within the EU.

At present, it remains unclear what decision the European Commission will take on this issue. However, if the ban is extended nationally, it could set a precedent for other EU countries that may also decide to extend the ban on Ukrainian grain imports. This could lead to serious consequences for the Ukrainian economy and agriculture.
