Export of pork from Russia to China is expected to grow by 50% in 2025, said the director general of the National Union of Pig Farmers.

Export of pork products will increase by 50% to 60-70 thousand tons in 2025. The growth will be supported by China. Last year showed an increase in exports to several countries, including Belarus, Vietnam, and Hong Kong. International market prices are favorable for Russian producers, without affecting domestic prices.

In the current year, it is expected that the export of pork complex products will reach about 350,000 tons, compared to 300,000 tons in 2024, according to the information from the CEO of the National Union of Pig Farmers, Yuri Kovalyov. The main driver of growth is assumed to be China. Last year, we managed to deliver about 40,000 tons of pork products to China, although we only worked half of the year. This year we expect to achieve greater success and increase the volume of supplies by 50%, within the range of 60-70,000 tons," Kovalyov said. Currently, only three companies have the right to export pork products to China, but according to Kovalyov, their number will increase, and there are several enterprises preparing for accreditation in the Chinese market. "We really hope that our products will be competitive both in terms of quality and price. The initial results indicate this," he emphasized.

Last year, the export of pork products increased by 80,000 tons, with half of this growth attributed to China, clarified Kovalyov. The remaining 50% of growth, according to him, is accounted for by other countries to which Russia exports. The majority of this growth is associated with exports to Belarus, as well as the restoration of supplies to Vietnam and Hong Kong. This year, the structure of pork product exports to different countries may change depending on market conditions, logistical issues, and other factors, but China is the main driver of significant growth, Kovalyov noted. According to him, Russia exports roughly the same amount of meat and by-products to China and Southeast Asia.

Currently, the prices for pork products on foreign markets satisfy Russian producers, so they continue to operate there, Kovalyov reported. "It is worth noting that this does not affect the dynamics of domestic prices. Evidence of this is that despite the record export of last year - over 300,000 tons, which is one-third higher than in 2023, consumer prices on the domestic market were much lower than inflation," Kovalyov commented.
