Vegetable Oils

According to OleoScope analysis, the volume of vegetable oil exports for the first five months of 2025 decreased by 22% compared to the same period last year, amounting to 1.071 million tons.

In particular, from January to May 2025, sunflower seed exports decreased by 7%, reaching 120 thousand tons, which is lower than the figure for the same period in 2024. Over 85% of the production was sent to the EAEU countries.

The export of soybeans for the reporting period of the current year amounted to 268 thousand tons, which is 35% less than from January to May 2024. The main consumer was China, purchasing 184 thousand tons.

The export volume of rapeseed for the first five months of 2025 decreased to 242 thousand tons (-18% compared to the same period last year), with the main volumes being sent to Belarus (183 thousand tons) and China (49 thousand tons).

The export of flax seeds for the reporting period amounted to 422 thousand tons (-15% compared to the same period last year), with China (324 thousand tons) and Belgium (34 thousand tons) being the main buying countries.

Oil Products

Vegetable oil exports experienced a decline, with the total volume decreasing by 19% for the first five months of 2025, amounting to 2.72 million tons compared to the previous year.

During the first five months of 2025, sunflower oil exports decreased by 25% to 1.87 million tons, with its share in the total volume of vegetable oil exports exceeding 68%. Turkey (456 thousand tons) and India (402 thousand tons) emerged as the main consumers.

Soybean oil exports from January to May 2025 decreased by 38%, reaching 227 thousand tons. The main buyers were Algeria (100 thousand tons) and India (78 thousand tons).

The export volumes of rapeseed oil for the period under review increased to 624 thousand tons (+26% compared to the same period last year), with over 88% of the production being shipped to China.

The ongoing reduction in sunflower oil exports is explained by a decrease in processing volumes for export due to a long period of negative margin caused by excessively high raw material prices. The Fat-and-Oil Union notes that even with improved prices and a reduction in raw material costs to an optimal 36 thousand rubles per ton to ensure profitability in oil production, the union expects a negative processing margin of minus 16% when processing existing stock reserves.

According to USDA data, it is anticipated that the global sunflower crop in the 2025/26 season will exceed 56.2 million tons, increasing by 4.3 million tons compared to the previous season, mainly due to growth in the Black Sea basin and EU countries.

Recent reports from Ukrainian industry agencies indicate the presence of sunflower seed stocks in the country at the level of 2 million tons excluding plant coverage. This suggests that Ukrainian farmers should be prepared for a decline in sunflower seed prices in the new season compared to the current level.

It was also announced that sunflower processing in Argentina is being reduced due to the bankruptcy of the largest processor in the country, leading to an increase in raw material stocks.

The Fat-and-Oil Union emphasizes that considering all the aforementioned factors, seed prices should decrease significantly by the end of the season. If sunflower crop forecasts are confirmed, then the price reduction for this product will continue into the new season.

Vegetable Meals

The total volume of vegetable meal exports for the first five months of 2025 amounted to 1.65 million tons, which is 10% lower than the same period last year.
