In Karelia, large horned cattle of the Ayrshire breed have been successfully bred since 1961. Currently, there are about 14 thousand head of this breed in the region, with the majority of them being purebred Ayrshires. These cows are known for their high productivity, good-natured disposition, and adaptability to harsh climatic conditions.
As part of a practical seminar organized by specialists from various regions of Russia, participants went to observe the daughter cows obtained from sire bulls that are kept at the "Karelian" Breeding Enterprise.
The event brought together over 90 specialists from different regions of Russia, including Moscow, Leningrad, Pskov, Novgorod, Kaliningrad, Kaluga, Kirov, Samara, Vologda regions, as well as the Republic of Karelia.
During the meeting, participants will discuss the development of pedigree livestock breeding in the Russian Federation, selection methods using the example of Ayrshire cattle, the genetic independence of the Russian Federation in pedigree livestock breeding, as well as the evaluation results and breeding value of Ayrshire breed sire bulls.
