Russia has begun fulfilling a 12-year contract for the supply of 70 million tons of grain to China, signed at the Belt and Road forum in Beijing. Deliveries are carried out through the new Russia-China overland grain corridor. Cargo is transported in specialized grain containers. Trains with soybeans and barley depart to China from the Transbaikal grain terminal. The NSZK project to create Russia's largest "land grain fleet" will allow transporting up to 8 million tons of grain annually. The transport system is fully loaded in both directions, which eliminates empty runs of railway vehicles.
The construction of the Transbaikal grain terminal was carried out in the priority development territory "Transbaikalia" with the participation of more than 300 people. The volume of private investment amounted to 9.5 billion rubles. It is expected that the terminal will provide transshipment of soybeans, rapeseed, wheat, oats, corn, sunflower and barley in a volume of up to 8 million tons per year. According to the regional authorities, this project will help develop 1.5 million hectares of fertile land that was previously unused in the region due to lack of infrastructure and demand.
