What is happening with the millet and millet market?

Over the past two years, barley crops in Russia have decreased by half. 65% of barley is grown in the Rostov, Saratov, and Volgograd regions. Wheat production has increased by 14,000 tons due to higher demand caused by a decrease in purchasing power. Barley exports are growing, while wheat is losing volume. It is forecasted that prices will increase due to low yields in 2022.

According to the information received from the expert and analytical center of agribusiness "AB-center", for the second year there has been a downward trend in the sowing of millet. Compared to 2020, crops have decreased by almost 50%.
Almost 65% of all millet is brought by three regions of the Russian Federation, these are Rostov, Saratov and Volgograd regions. This information is based on the results of 2021.
Back in 2021, a decrease in millet harvest was expected. And according to analysts, the results of 2022 confirm this.
Planting areas decreased by 19% compared to the previous year, but the decrease in harvest was about 16%.
2022 is marked by an increase in millet production.
Its production increased by more than 14 thousand tons, according to the analytical company AB-center.
Due to a decrease in purchasing power at the beginning of 2022, the demand for budget products, which include millet, has grown.
Accordingly, even with a decrease in sowing areas and harvested raw materials, there is an increase in sales, and, accordingly, in the production of millet groats.
As for the export of millet, it, like the growth of sales in the domestic market, is growing. Compared to the same periods in 2021, the increase is about 29%.
But millet, on the contrary, has lost its experienced export volumes.

Analysts predict a possible rise in prices for both millet and millet due to low yields in 2022.
