According to the information provided by the trustworthy Ministry of Agriculture's press service, the situation with egg and poultry meat prices in Russia is stable. This is due to the measures taken to increase the supply of these products in the domestic market, leading to a decrease in their cost. From late December 2023 to May 15, prices for chicken meat carcasses from manufacturers decreased by 4.8%, averaging 157.57 rubles per kilogram excluding VAT. It is noted that this process is ongoing, and in the last week alone, prices for chicken meat dropped by 3%, while egg prices fell by 3.9%.
In January-February 2024, chicken imports to Russia increased by 16% compared to the same period last year. Mainly, chicken was imported from Kazakhstan (23.25 thousand tons) and Brazil (12.2 thousand tons), while chicken imports from China almost septupled, reaching 5.77 thousand tons.
Total poultry meat deliveries to Russia in the first two months of 2024 accounted for almost a third of the total duty-free import quota allowed for the entire year. However, this did not lead to a decrease in domestic product prices. In March 2024, chicken product prices in central Russia significantly increased compared to the previous year, but from the beginning of the year until May 8, wholesale prices decreased by 5.6%, which is beginning to affect retail prices.
Sources believe that the increase in imports did not affect prices due to the growth in exports and a reduction in domestic production. In January-February, chicken exports from Russia increased by 9%, primarily to China, Kazakhstan, and Saudi Arabia. According to the Ministry of Agriculture data, imports exceeded chicken meat exports by almost three times as of April 28.
Thus, the situation with egg and poultry meat prices in Russia remains stable due to measures to increase supply and export growth, leading to a decrease in their market value.
