More than 94% of winter crops in Russia are in good condition by spring, announced the Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation.

The Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation has announced that over 94% of winter crops are in good condition, exceeding last year's results. The area of damaged crops is only 1 million hectares. 5.3 million hectares of winter crops are insured under insurance programs. The demand for insurance has increased over the past 3 years.

During the meeting with the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, on February 20, the Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Patrushev, noted that more than 94% of winter crops sown on 20 million hectares last autumn are in good condition approaching spring. This indicator exceeds last year's results.

The area of damaged winter crops in the country is only about 1 million hectares.

According to the National Union of Agricultural Insurers, contracts for insurance have been concluded for 5.3 million hectares of winter crops in Russia, which is approximately 26% of their total area. Out of this amount, 5.1 million hectares are occupied by grains, with rapeseed also insured on an area of 112 thousand hectares and forage crops on an area of less than 1 thousand hectares. The multi-risk insurance program covers 65% of the insured area of winter crops, with 35% covered under the emergency response program. Insurance coverage also extends to the spring-summer period.

The President of the National Union of Agricultural Insurers, Korney Bizhdov, emphasized the growth in demand for insurance of winter crops in Russia over the past 3 years. In 2021, 1.8 million hectares of winter crops were insured, and in 2022, this number increased to 4.2 million hectares. Over the past year, the area of insured winter crops increased by 26%.

"The National Union of Agricultural Insurers reminds farmers that the loss of winter crops during the wintering period is an insurable event with expenses reimbursed for reseeding in accordance with the rules of multi-risk insurance. In case of losses of insured winter crops, it is necessary to report them to the insurance company and coordinate actions in accordance with the terms of the insurance contract," commented the President of the National Union of Agricultural Insurers, Korney Bizhdov.
