According to the latest information as of May 17, farmers in the Primorsky Krai have already managed to plant 80 percent of the planned area for potatoes. Along with potatoes, other vegetables such as cabbage, carrots, beets, and onions are also being planted, totaling almost three thousand hectares in the main vegetable-growing areas.
This information was provided by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Primorsky Krai: "At the moment, we have planted 2.2 thousand hectares of potatoes, which is 80% of the expected plan. As for cabbage, carrots, beets, and onions, this amounts to 700 hectares, which is 40% of the plan." The most active planting of potatoes and vegetables is taking place in the districts of Oktyabrsky, Partizansky, and the urban district of Ussuriysk.
Representatives of the ministry explained that this year the main potato varieties are "Sante," "Queen Anna," and "Red Scarlett," which are adapted to the local climatic conditions.
Since the agricultural sector is a key element of the region's food security and is under the special control of Governor Oleg Kozhemyako, Primorsky farmers are provided with about 40 different measures of state support, including measures to increase potato and vegetable production.
