The sugar beet processing season has begun at the Zherdevsky sugar plant in the Tambov region. The first machine with raw materials welcomed the start of work, as reported in the Zherdevsky News publication. Prior to this, the plant's team took comprehensive measures to prepare the equipment, repair premises and roads, and ensure compliance with environmental standards.
Deputy head of the Tambov region, Alena Sytova, noted that last year the plants in the region processed 4.3 million tons of beets and produced over 612 thousand tons of sugar. This season, it is planned to process around 850 thousand tons of beets at the Zherdevsky plant, slightly exceeding some records from the previous year.
Modernization works were carried out at the plant: hydraulic conveyors were reinforced, walls in the washing department were repaired, beet elevators underwent major repairs, and evaporation stations and dosing devices in the packaging department were modernized. The plant intends to switch to a four-shift work schedule to optimize production. Last year, the Zherdevsky plant celebrated its 85th anniversary and has undergone more than twenty reconstructions throughout its history. In 2021, the plant ranked third in the "Best Sugar Plant in Russia" category in the Central Federal District, and in 2022, it was recognized for its development of production culture.
