Introduction of a compartment system in poultry farming: ensuring animal health safety

The Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) is considering the introduction of a compartmentalization system (zoosanitary safety statuses) in poultry farming in Russia, similar to the existing system in pig farming. As reported by "Veterinary Medicine and Life", the head of the department, Sergey Dankvert, mentioned this at the department's final meeting. "What we did when particularly dangerous diseases emerged, when we awarded compartments for pig farming, is now being discussed."

Rosselkhoznadzor is considering the possibility of introducing a compartment system in poultry farming in Russia, similar to that already in place in pig farming, to ensure animal health safety.

At the end of January, the Ministry of Agriculture developed draft veterinary rules to determine the zoosanitary status of poultry enterprises, which will apply not only to buildings where poultry are kept, but also to facilities for slaughter, production, processing and storage of poultry products, as well as to land plots in the area of production objects.

The bill establishes criteria for various zoosanitary statuses and lists of objects to which this system will not apply.

The Ministry notes that the introduction of a compartment system in poultry farming will simplify the marketing of products and give poultry producers trade advantages, since enterprises with a high zoosanitary status will enjoy greater confidence from importers.
