A flax harvesting campaign is underway in Crimea, 43% of the sown area has already been harvested. This was announced by the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Crimea Andrei Savchuk. More than 56,000 hectares were sown with this crop in the republic for the 2023 harvest.
“Crimean farmers have already threshed about 24.3 thousand tons of seeds of this crop. The average yield this year is slightly higher than in 2022 and is 10 centners per hectare. The plant is one of the most popular in agriculture. It is found almost all over the world. For our country, this is the original traditional plant culture, which has been cultivated since ancient times. In the Crimea, farmers grow oilseed flax. The largest areas are to be removed in the Saksky, Razdolnensky and Chernomorsky regions. At the moment, the highest yield, which is more than 17 centners per hectare, is in the Soviet district. Let me remind you that last year our farmers collected about 73,000 tons of seeds,” the minister commented.
The head of the Crimean Ministry of Agriculture also reminded that millet, coriander and chickpeas are also being harvested.
“This year, the area on which Turkish peas are sown is 18% more than last year. Now the culture is being harvested in nine regions of Crimea. It occupies more than 5 thousand hectares of fields. The area leaders are Saki and Krasnogvardeisky districts. Farmers have already harvested more than 1.2 thousand hectares, or 23.5% of the area, from which they harvested 1.4 thousand tons. The average crop yield is more than 12 centners per hectare,” Andriy Savchuk added.
