China hits record corn harvest in 2023

In 2023, China achieved a record corn harvest of 288.8 million tons, which is 4% higher than the previous year. Despite typhoons, crops in the northern provinces remained unaffected. Rice production reached 206.6 million tons, while legumes (including soybeans) amounted to 23.84 million tons. The planting area increased by 0.5% to reach 119 million hectares.

According to the Bureau of Statistics of the People's Republic of China, in 2023 China achieved a record corn harvest of 288.8 million tons, which is also 4% higher than the year's indicator (277.2 million tons).

It is noted that the increase in grain production in the country occurred despite the negative impact of young typhoons, which damaged crops in some northern provinces of China.

According to statistics, rice in China in 2023 amounted to 206.6 million tons, legumes (including soybeans) - 23.84 million tons.

Also note that the area under grain crops in China increased by 0.5% (or by 635 thousand hectares) to 119 million hectares in the current year.
