Compared to last year, the gross rice harvest increased by 2.3% and reached 8.8 thousand tons, with an average yield of 31.1 centners per hectare. Currently, the total area of rice paddies in the Chechen Republic is 15.2 thousand hectares, located in the Gudermes and Shelkovsky districts. Part of this area is used for cultivating other crops as part of crop rotation, while part of it requires amelioration.
In recent years, special attention has been paid to the restoration and development of the region's irrigation system. As part of the event "Commissioning of ameliorated lands for the cultivation of export-oriented agricultural products through the reconstruction, technical re-equipment, and construction of new ameliorative systems for general and individual use," 1.6 thousand hectares of irrigated lands were put into operation in 2023.
The measures taken in the region contribute to the development of rice farming, which is of particular importance in the agro-industrial complex of the republic. According to information from the region's industry department, the main objectives today are to increase the rice sowing area, increase yield, and put rice paddies into operation through the reconstruction of rice systems taken out of irrigation. It is planned to increase the rice sowing area to 4 thousand hectares next year.
