According to the press service of the akim of the Mangistau region, as part of the development of ports in the territory of the FEZ, it is planned to create a container hub by the end of 2025.
The accession of ports to the economic zone contributes to the creation of one of the largest international transport corridors with the involvement of the best logistics companies in the world.
Aktau port is located on the northeastern coast of the Caspian Sea at the intersection of several international transport corridors. It is a harbor for the transportation of goods from east to west, from north to south, as well as to Azerbaijan, Iran, Turkmenistan, and the Russian Federation.
There are 6 oil berths in the port of Aktau with an annual capacity of 12 million tons. The share of transportation of the port of Aktau is 40% of the total traffic on the Caspian Sea.
There are 4 berths in the port of Kuryk. Two of them are designed for loading cargo on the ferry that arrived by rail, and the other two are for unloading. Work is underway to develop the activities of the port and build another harbor to further increase cargo traffic. Heavy cargo and containers will be transported through it. It is also planned to receive Kazakh ferries from 2024. This, in turn, will serve as an impetus for the opening of new routes with the two ports of Russia and Iran.
Due to the current geopolitical situation in the port of Kuryk, cargo transportation has increased. So, since the beginning of 2023, more than 550 thousand tons of cargo have been transported through the port. This is 2 times more than in the same period last year.
Also in this year. in the port of Kuryk, it is planned to launch a grain terminal with a capacity of 1 million tons per year with a one-time storage of 25 thousand tons of grain crops.
