Sugar production from the new beet harvest in Russia reached 4.957 million tons by December 4, which is 8.8% more than last year. Almost 35 million tons of beets were processed out of a total volume of harvested beets of 37.8 million tons. Daily sugar production in the period from mid-September to mid-November ranged from 45 to 55 thousand tons. By December 8, 51.7 million tons of beets had been harvested, exceeding last year's level of 47.4 million tons. At current yields, the harvest is expected to reach 52.5 million tons. Ivanov noted that beets have already been harvested from 98.4% of the area, but some areas remain for harvesting in the south.
It is also predicted that sugar production in the 2023-2024 season could reach 6.8 million tons (last season it was 6.2 million tons), with annual consumption of 5.8 million tons. Since the beginning of autumn, sugar exports have been actively increasing, especially by rail. In October, exports amounted to 63.1 thousand tons, and in November - 82.8 thousand tons, mainly to the CIS countries and others. The export of raw beet sugar has also begun.
