On Wednesday, futures for raw sugar jumped due to planting issues in some countries, leading to supply cuts, as reported by Nasdaq.
By 14:17 GMT, March contracts for raw sugar SBc1 rose by 1.4% to 26.01 cents per pound, benefiting from the market growth thanks to supply constraints.
During Wednesday's trading, traders from Czarnikow predicted a sugar deficit of 3.2 million metric tons in the 2023/2024 season worldwide.
“This deficit has arisen due to unfavorable planting weather in India and Thailand, as well as technical issues in various Latin American countries, including Colombia and Mexico,” said a Czarnikow representative, based on the latest statistical data.
Prices for white sugar in December LSUc1 also rose by 0.8% to $694.40 per ton.
