A ship with free Russian wheat bound for the Central African Republic has arrived at the Cameroonian port of Douala, Sputnik Africa reports. There it will be processed into flour and then sent to the capital of the Central African Republic, Bangui.
The first 25 thousand tons of grain have already arrived in Africa. The wheat is destined for Somalia and Burkina Faso. Deliveries are also expected to Zimbabwe, Mali and Eritrea.
In total, by the end of the year, Russia will send 200,000 tons of grain to Africa as part of agreements on free food supplies. A scheme is also being worked out to supply 1 million tons of Russian grain to Turkey for processing, and then send it to countries in need.
As part of the “grain deal” between Russia, Ukraine and Turkey, agricultural products were to be delivered to Africa. The grain deal ended in July this year due to failure to fulfill the conditions of the Russian side.
