Egypt's First Assistant Minister of Supply, Ibrahim Ashmawy, said that the country's authorities are not going to abandon purchases of Russian wheat. This statement was made in response to a Bloomberg report that Egypt is abandoning the purchase of wheat from Russia and is switching to purchases from Bulgaria and France.
Ashmawy stressed that relations between Egypt and Russia are strategic, and commercial relations between the two countries are developing successfully. He also noted that there are currently no disagreements regarding the purchase of wheat from Russia and other countries.
Egypt is the world's largest wheat importer, with almost all of its supplies channeled through the country's General Directorate of Supply. Last season, Egypt increased its purchases of wheat from Russia by 61.1%, reaching 8.1 million tons. Egypt recently purchased 300 thousand tons of Russian wheat at a price of $250 per ton.
