It is known that Rosselkhoznadzor will strengthen monitoring of grain exports to Mexico to avoid claims of non-compliance with Mexican phytosanitary requirements, according to the report of the Interfax agency.
Rosselkhoznadzor stated that it is taking measures to enhance control over the export of grain products to Mexico to ensure that only products meeting local requirements are shipped. This statement was made following negotiations between Rosselkhoznadzor and representatives of the Mexican National Health, Safety, and Food Quality Service (SENASICA). These negotiations took place after notifications were received that two shipments of Russian wheat did not meet Mexican phytosanitary requirements.
Rosselkhoznadzor reported on the current progress of the investigation in connection with the received notifications. A new examination of one of the shipments revealed no weed impurities. Inspection of the second shipment is ongoing, and all reports on the findings will be promptly sent to Mexico.
On their part, the Mexican side stated that in case of isolated findings of weed seeds, the shipment will be sent for industrial processing, including milling plants, as reported by Rosselkhoznadzor.
As it is known, this year Russian wheat exports to Mexico have significantly increased. The Analytical Department of the Russian Grain Union reported that from July to September 2023, 280 thousand tons of wheat were shipped, which is 8.5 times more than the previous year. In October, export volumes further increased by 3%.
