This year, broiler meat production in the Philippines is expected to increase by 2% compared to last year, reaching 1.9 million tons. This information was reported by IMIT, citing Elias Jose Inciong, the chairman of the United Broiler Raisers Association.
This growth of 180 thousand tons is attributed to the transition of many consumers in the Asian country from pork to more affordable protein alternatives, including chicken meat. The domestic market is capable of meeting the growing demand, which is a trend for countries with low or middle-income levels.
However, Inciong noted that the usual annual growth rate is 4-5%. Possible reasons for the slowdown in growth could be reaching production capacity. Poultry consumption in the country this year is estimated by experts to be in the range of 13-14 kilograms per person.
