During a government meeting, Oksana Lut, the head of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, confirmed the forecast for wheat harvest this year, which is estimated at 83 million tons. The total grain harvest is expected to reach 130 million tons.
It is expected that the grain harvest this year will reach 130 million tons, with wheat accounting for 83 million tons, reports Interfax, citing the minister's words.
Currently, 97% of the grain crops area has already been harvested.
Lut noted that this year's results are among the best in Russian history and will allow to maintain a significant export potential.
The minister also highlighted the improved grain quality compared to the previous year. "The quality of grain is higher, approximately a third of wheat meets grades 1-3," she said.
According to preliminary forecasts, the harvest of oilseeds this year will amount to around 28 million tons, with soybeans and rapeseed harvest approaching record levels - 7 million and 4.6 million tons respectively.
"In rice, we are approaching the record for the entire history of Russia. The maximum value was reached in 2020 - 1.1 million tons. This year we have already harvested more than 1.1 million tons and expect this figure to reach around 1.2 million tons," added the head of the Ministry of Agriculture.
Lut also mentioned that winter crops sowing continues in the southern regions, North Caucasus, and central Russia. In other territories, the work is practically completed, and more than 19 million hectares have been sown. The area of winter crops by the end of the year will be slightly less than 20 million hectares. In new regions, it is planned to sow winter crops on 1.6 million hectares, which is 3% higher than last year's figures. Farmers are also increasingly using seeds developed by their own breeders.
