The volume of production of organic products by 2030 should grow to 150 billion rubles, said Sergey Gerasimovich Mitin, First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Agrarian Food Policy and Environmental Management, at a press conference held on July 26 at the Rossiya Segodnya International Information Agency. Now the volume of production of final organic products in Russia is about 12-14 billion rubles. This is reported by the Grain On-Line agency.
The area of land occupied by the production of organic products has grown 4-5 times since the adoption of the law on organic products, Sergei Mitin said. "We plan to increase it to 4.5 million hectares by 2030 - this is the task facing the producers of organic products and the Ministry of Agriculture," he said.
The basic federal law “On Organic Products and on Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of the Russian Federation” No. 280 entered into force on January 1, 2020. In 2022, a major change was made to it - from September 1, 2023, self-employed citizens will be able to apply for inclusion in the register of organic producers. “These are five million people who can produce organic products,” the parliamentarian believes.
In July 2023, another important law for organic producers was adopted, which allows the labeling of "eco", "bio", "green", "environmentally friendly" and similar words only on products that are produced in accordance with the requirements for organic products. “If you write “eco”, “bio”, etc., then be sure to certify your production as organic according to the requirements established by law. Then it will be a real organic production. And you can put a specially created sign in the form of a sheet on the products,” said Sergey Mitin. “This not only saves consumers from misunderstanding, but also corresponds to international practice,” he added. “Today, the countries that are members of the EAEU are applying this.” The law comes into force on September 1, 2024.
