A meeting of the Public Council was held at the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan. The meeting discussed countering corruption in the railway transport sector, measures to stabilize the market of freight rail transportation, and current business issues in this field.
"It is necessary to focus on implementing the latest technologies and digitizing processes in the railway system, as well as take systemic steps to reduce corruption risks on the railway," emphasized R. Saraevа, Chair of the Budget and Anti-Corruption Commission of the Public Council.
According to information from the Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Railway and Water Transport, Nurzhan Kelbuganov, in the last 3 months of this year, the volume of freight transportation by rail in Kazakhstan amounted to 70.7 million tons, which is slightly less (by 0.7%) compared to the same period last year.
Domestic freight transportation is fully provided. Last year, work was carried out to update the locomotive fleet, with 113 new locomotives purchased.
At present, the total number of freight cars in Kazakhstan is 136 thousand units. To update the fleet of freight rolling stock, 242 units were purchased this year.
The Ministry of Transport also reported that work is underway to increase the capacity by building important infrastructure projects such as Dostyk-Moyynty, Bakhty-Ayagoz, Darbaza-Maktaaral, and stations around Almaty have been renovated. The Ministry has also established a working group to improve the regulatory framework in the field of railway transport.
