The Ministry of Agriculture denies the increase in lamb prices due to active exports.

The Ministry of Agriculture explained that mutton is popular in regions where sheep are bred for domestic consumption. The cost of mutton is below the average Russian price, and the demand is not mass-market. The increase in prices was attributed to the growth in exports to Iran due to a shortage in the domestic market and an increase in expenses.

In addition, the Ministry of Agriculture named several more arguments. They noted that lamb is considered a traditional type of meat for many regions of the country where a significant part of the population breeds sheep, including for domestic consumption.

Also, the ministry reminded that in such regions, the cost of this product is below the average level in Russia, and the consumption of this meat and its processed products is not widespread.

This is how the ministry commented on the information from Rosstat about the increase in prices for Russian lamb, which was reported by the RBC news agency. The agency also referred to producers and experts who explained the price increase by a tenfold increase in lamb exports to Iran against the backdrop of alleged shortages of this meat in the domestic market, rising costs for logistics, equipment for slaughtering cattle, and other expenses.
