The current measures in Russia to provide the domestic market with mineral fertilizers can be extended for another six months; the Ministry of Agriculture is working on relevant proposals. This was announced by the head of the department, Dmitry Patrushev, at a meeting of Russian President Vladimir Putin with the government on Wednesday.
“The purchase of fertilizers is carried out within the framework of a separate plan. At the same time, quotas for the export of certain types are maintained, and producer prices are fixed,” said Patrushev. “We have agreed on the validity of these measures until the end of November, but now we are already working on their extension for another six months."
As reported, the government set quotas for the export of mineral fertilizers from June 1 to November 30, 2023 in the amount of 16.3 million tons. This measure is aimed at maintaining sufficient volumes of fertilizers in the domestic market.
According to the forecast of the Ministry of Agriculture, the introduction of mineral fertilizers into the agro-industrial complex of the Russian Federation by 2025 can reach 80 kg per hectare against the 65 kg predicted for this year. In 2022, this figure was 60 kg per hectare. This year, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Industry and Trade signed a new plan for the purchase of mineral fertilizers by Russian farmers, which is designed for the period from June 2023 to May 2024. This document takes into account all the needs of agricultural producers and provides for an increase in purchases by 5% compared to the actual implementation of the previous plan.
