According to the decision of the Krasnodar Krai, the pig population, which was eradicated last year due to the increased cases of African swine fever (ASF), is planned to be restored within three years. The head of the region's Ministry of Agriculture, Fyodor Dereka, announced this at a session of the legislative assembly of the Krai, as reported by the "Interfax-Russia" news agency.
He reminded that over 57 thousand pigs were lost in the pig farms of the Krai, and after the introduction of a state of emergency due to this disease, the number increased to 80 thousand pigs. As a result, the number of pigs decreased by 12.5% from the 2022 level. "However, after all veterinary measures are taken, this number will be restored within three years," the minister said. According to parliamentarians, the number of cattle also showed a positive trend. At the beginning of this year, it amounted to over 563 thousand heads, which is 5.8 thousand more than at the same time last year. The production of basic livestock products also increased: live cattle and poultry for slaughter - up to 614 thousand, milk - up to 1.713 million tons.
The chairman of the regional parliament, Yuri Burlachko, noted that the number of cattle in the region has grown stronger than ever in many decades, and the region has become a leader in the production of the latter type of product. He explained this success by the action of the new livestock law. "It seemed impossible to return to Soviet levels in the conditions of a market economy. Nevertheless, now the industry is developing in all directions - both in the construction of new farms and in genetic work," added the parliamentarian.
The meeting participants also recalled that within the regional agricultural development program, more than 2.3 billion rubles were allocated for livestock farming this year. At the same time, all these funds have already been successfully used.
