According to information received from market operators, the message about China canceling the purchase of one million tons of Australian wheat is significantly exaggerated. According to Grain Central, Australian traders indicate that it can be said that China is only postponing, not canceling, shipments booked last year.
One source told the agency, “There were certainly cancellations, but this volume was quickly resold. All other discussions are mainly related to minor delays and misinterpretation or exaggeration by some media regarding canceled delivery deadlines.”
However, some Australian companies involved in exporting or planning to ship wheat to China report that the total volume of grain scheduled for shipment in the second half of March is about 400 thousand tons. This indicates a decrease in pace by about 1 million tons compared to the volume shipped in January. This situation is due to delays that China is making in delivering batches of wheat booked last year.
