According to information published by the online publication World Grain on November 22, the UK wheat harvest in 2023 was reduced by 13%. However, most of the crop still scored No. 2 or higher due to its high protein content.
The total volume of wheat harvested was 29.8 million tons, which corresponds to the five-year average. Much of Canada experienced elevated temperatures and low growth rates, resulting in lower yields than last year. Cereals Canada CEO Dean Diaz noted that Canadian farmers have grown nearly 30 million tonnes of high-quality wheat this year, with the added protein that customers demand.
Cereals Canada also reported that more than 95% of the Canada Western Red Spring crop graded No. 1 and No. 2 for high protein, and more than 80% of Western Amber Durum graded No. 1 and No. 2 for high protein. Over 90% of Canada Prairie Spring Red and Eastern Soft Red Winter also rank No. 1 and No. 2 with increasing protein content.
