Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani said the country has a year's supply of wheat thanks to a successful farming season, Reuters reports.
As noted, with a population of more than 43 million people, the annual volume of wheat consumption in Iraq is 4.5-5 million tons, according to the Ministry of Agriculture.
The increase in wheat yield in 2023 was due to the expansion of grain sown areas in desert areas. Local farmers are using groundwater to replace shrinking rivers after the country suffered one of its worst droughts.
