Japan increased grain imports from Russia by 381.8% in 2023, according to statistics published by the Japanese Ministry of Finance. However, at the same time, Tokyo reduced imports of Russian vegetables and fruits by 48.9% and 96.7%, respectively, as well as Russian fish and seafood by 16.4%.
Total trade turnover between Japan and Russia decreased by 45.3%, amounting to 1.43 trillion yen. The main reason for this decline was the restrictive measures introduced by Tokyo in connection with the situation in Ukraine.
