Erdogan has extended the grain deal by 60 days, thanks to the cooperation between Russia and Ukraine - news about the Black Sea grain corridor.

President Erdogan of Turkey extended the grain deal for 60 days, which will allow the continuation of the Black Sea grain corridor. Russia, Ukraine, the USA, and the UN support this decision aimed at ensuring food security.

On Monday, May 17, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the extension of the grain deal for 60 days.

In his address to the international community, Erdogan noted that the deal, known as the Black Sea Grain Corridor, was initiated by Turkey with his active participation. The current agreement was set to expire on May 18, but a decision was made to extend it for another 2 months. The President expressed hope that this extension would be beneficial for all participants. He emphasized that Turkey will adhere to all the terms of the agreement and expressed gratitude to Russia and Ukraine for their support.

Erdogan also thanked Presidents Putin, Zelensky, and UN Secretary-General Guterres for their contribution to the extension of the grain deal.

The extension of the deal became possible thanks to the cooperation and constructive approaches of Russia and Ukraine, emphasized the Turkish leader.

The original agreement on the Black Sea Grain Corridor was signed in Istanbul on July 22, 2022, and has been extended every 120 days since November of the same year. After its latest extension in March, the agreement was set to expire on May 18, but a decision was made to extend it for another 60 days.

Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, confirmed the extension of the Black Sea grain deal for two months.

During a briefing, Zakharova stated: "We confirm the announcement by the Turkish president regarding the extension of the Black Sea initiative for two months. This provides an opportunity not just to talk, but to actually help ensure global food security, primarily for those countries most in need."

Vedant Patel, a representative of the US State Department, welcomed the extension of the Black Sea grain initiative for two months and stated that the US will continue to work with Turkey and the UN for further cooperation.

Patel said: "We welcome the extension of the deal."
