In the UK, a fresh outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza has occurred. This was reported by the British Egg Producers Association of outdoor poultry.
The outbreak took place on a farm where free-range chickens are kept. It happened in East Yorkshire, near the village of Hatton-Cranswick. The disease was confirmed in several birds on this farm. In total, there are over 48 thousand commercial chickens on the premises. The organization stated that instead of waiting or implementing softer measures, the overseas government decided to cull all the animals. Additionally, a three-kilometer sanitation zone was established around the farm, as well as an observation and control zone within 10 kilometers.
In addition, the British government plans to conduct remote veterinary inspections of all farms that have previously been affected by avian influenza epidemics. This will be one of the new ways to control the safety of poultry complexes. It is expected that this measure will help monitor the situation at these facilities and control the process of animal culling and the elimination of the consequences of the epidemic on this and other farms.
Since October of last year, only four cases of avian flu have been identified in England, while no such cases have been reported in Northern Ireland, Wales, and Scotland.
