In the near future, the cost of chicken eggs in Russia will start decreasing.
He explained that the regulatory body sent recommendations to the regions regarding entering into price agreements with egg producers and sellers. According to him, large producers agreed to lower wholesale prices, and retail chains were called upon to make corresponding reductions in retail prices. The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) will regularly monitor compliance with these recommendations. The head of the service also noted that some producers significantly increased prices for the product, exceeding the growth rates of costs and profitability in the wholesale sector. As a result, ten antimonopoly cases were initiated in ten regions of the country, where signs of concluding anticompetitive agreements with other producers were identified.
The sharp increase in egg prices in Russia began in September of last year, and in some regions, there was even a shortage of products. Since the beginning of this year, egg prices have almost doubled, and only towards the end of the year did the growth rates start to decrease. The average price for a dozen eggs on the market has exceeded 100 rubles and continues to rise, reaching 150 rubles in some chains. Several measures have been taken to address this issue. At the beginning of the year, Russia allowed the import of 1.2 billion eggs from partner countries duty-free at the suggestion of the Ministry of Agriculture. This rule will be in effect until the end of June. In the past month, around 79 million eggs have been imported from Azerbaijan, Belarus, and Turkey, with deliveries ongoing. Additionally, an agreement was reached in the fall with domestic egg producers to increase their own production. Some of them, along with local retail chains, voluntarily reduced their markups on this product. Minister of Agriculture Dmitry Patrushev hopes that both the tariff concession and the actions of producers and retailers will help lower egg prices after the New Year holidays. The same opinion was expressed by President Vladimir Putin, apologizing for the rise in egg prices and their shortage. He explained the current situation by the huge demand that exceeded the supply, as well as the untimely opening of imports by the Russian authorities.
