At a press conference at the Interfax press center, Anna Budnikova, deputy director of the Rostov branch of the Federal State-Funded Institution "Grain Quality Evaluation Center" (GQEC), announced that about 70% of the harvested grain in the Rostov region in the new 2024 harvest belongs to food quality.

According to Budnikova, this year, more than 10 million tons of wheat were harvested, which is slightly less than last year's yield of over 13 million tons. State monitoring was conducted in the Rostov region for soft and hard wheat, and the majority of the harvested grain belongs to soft wheat, as it grows better in this region. In general, food grain, namely wheat of the third and fourth classes, constitutes 69.9% across 43 districts of the Rostov region.

According to the head of the State Phytosanitary Control Department at the Russian Federation State Border, Olga Yurchenko, the Rostov region exported 5.4 million tons of grain and its processed products from January to September 2024. She noted that exports can be divided into direct and indirect. Direct exports remain at the level of the previous year, while indirect exports through the Caucasus port have decreased slightly. Yurchenko also reported that new countries for export have emerged this year, such as Oman, Jordan, and Sri Lanka.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Rostov Region, Dmitry Repka, shared information about the sowing campaign. Winter crops have already been sown on an area of 1.2 million hectares, which is more than 40% of the planned areas. All necessary mineral fertilizers are stocked, with 230,000 tons available at the moment. Preparations for spring field work have also already begun.

A total of 2.87 million hectares are planned to be sown for the 2025 harvest. Considering unfavorable agrometeorological conditions, farmers are making decisions on the choice of technology and sowing times individually for each field.
