Spring frosts and drought did not affect the quality of grain harvest in the Southern region, reported the Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor).

Spring frost and drought did not affect the quality of the grain harvest: the share of third-class wheat decreased from 24% to 17%, fifth-class - from 17% to 15.5%, but fourth-class remained at approximately the same level - 61%. The yield was affected, farmers in the Rostov region lost 3.7 billion rubles.

Returning spring frosts and prolonged natural drought did not affect the quality of the new grain harvest, as reported in an interview by the temporary head of the Southern interregional department of the Rosselkhoznadzor, Egor Anischenko, to RBC TV South.

“Analyzing the entire wheat yield, we do not observe any significant changes in quality. There are some fluctuations, for example, the volume of third-class wheat this year is 17% of all analyzed crop volumes, compared to 24% last year. The difference of 7% still exists for the third class,” Anischenko noted.

According to him, the share of fifth-class wheat this year was 15.5% of the total harvest, compared to 17% last year. “But the main volume of grain is represented by fourth-class wheat, which accounts for 61%, approximately at the same level as last year,” added Anischenko.

Agricultural producers in this region suffered significant losses due to adverse weather conditions and the loss of some crops. For example, the authorities of the Rostov region estimated the damage caused to farmers at 3.7 billion rubles. According to the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, insurance companies compensated around 1 billion rubles for the losses incurred by Russian agricultural producers by June.
