By the end of last week, 93% of the US spring wheat area had been harvested (93% as of last year and 93% on average over the past five years). This is stated in the report of the National Agricultural Statistical Service of the US Department of Agriculture (NASS USDA), reports the Grain On-Line agency.
According to forecasts from the US Department of Agriculture, the country will harvest 47.2 million tons of wheat this season, which is more than last season (44.9 million tons), but below the five-year average (48.7 million tons).
Corn and soybeans are growing faster than usual. As of September 17, 9% of the areas under corn (7% and 7%) and 5% of the areas under soybeans (3% and 4%) have been threshed.
Winter wheat sowing was carried out on 15% (19% and 16%) of the area.
