Sunflower harvesting started in Kabardino-Balkaria

Farmers in Kabardino-Balkaria have started harvesting sunflower. The area under cultivation has decreased by 5.5 thousand hectares, with 11.7 thousand hectares sown in Prokhladnensky, Baksansky, and Zolsky districts. Last year was a record year in terms of yield, with 56.2 thousand tons of seeds harvested and a yield increase of 11%.

Farmers of Kabardino-Balkaria started harvesting sunflowers. The culture was removed from the first 100 hectares in the Prokhladnensky district.

The area occupied by sunflower this year is more than 15 thousand hectares. In comparison with last year, sunflower crops decreased by 5.5 thousand hectares, which is associated with the need to comply with crop rotation.

The main crops are concentrated in Prokhladnensky, Baksansky and Zolsky districts, they account for a total of 11.7 thousand hectares, or 77% of the area under crops.

Last year, the harvest of sunflower oil seeds was a record for the republic - 56.2 thousand tons of seeds were harvested, which is 1.7 times more than in 2021. The average yield last year reached 26.1 c/ha, exceeding the figure for 2021 by 11%.
