Tomsk farmers have increased wheat sowing. Andrey Knorr, deputy head of the region for agro-industrial policy and environmental management, reported this to the governor of the Tomsk region Vladimir Mazur at a staff meeting, the press service of the regional administration reports.
Summing up the results of spring field work, the vice-governor noted that Tomsk farms this year started sowing grain two weeks later than usual and under adverse climatic and economic conditions. In autumn, waterlogging of the soil did not allow full plowing of fallow land - 65% of the spring field was cultivated. This was reflected in the costs, speed and quality of field work. In addition, 3.8 thousand hectares of winter crops died this spring due to recurrent frosts and soil drought. On average, farms had to resow up to 25% of winter crops, and in some fields - up to 50%.
“Due to the fall in prices for grains and legumes last year, some farms were forced to adjust the structure of sown areas. 34 farms reduced their sown areas for "gray" crops - oats and barley, which are not much in demand on the market today. At the same time, agrarians increased the sowing of the most economically profitable crop, wheat, by 12.7% compared to last year,”
Andrey Knorr said.
Tomsk plant growers, with the support of the regional budget, continue to increase the volume of fertilizer application, update the seed fund and equipment. Thanks to this support, the farms have retained the sown area for potatoes and vegetables.
Governor Vladimir Mazur thanked the farmers for their work.
“Weather and market conditions at the beginning of the sowing campaign were unfavorable for the rural workers, who had to change plans and bear additional costs. However, the industry is coping with problems, farmers have increased wheat crops and saved jobs. But the difficulties, of course, remain: in June there was very little rain in our main agricultural regions. Keep under constant control the situation in the agro-industrial complex, on which the food security of the region, prosperity in municipal and family budgets depends,”
Governor Vladimir Mazur instructed Deputy Andrey Knorr.
