According to the monitoring data of the UK Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB), as of August 29, harvesting of winter wheat of the 2023/24 crop was carried out on 89% of the planned areas. This is higher than the result of the last 5 years (82%).
It is noted that the drier weather over the past two weeks has made it possible to achieve good results. Thus, the yield of harvested grain ranges from 7.8 t/ha to 8.2 t/ha, which is higher than the average level of recent years.
In addition, the country has completed the harvest of winter barley with an average yield of 6.2 t/ha to 9 t/ha. As of the reporting date, 59% of the planned areas were threshed under spring barley (63% - on average over the last 5 years) with a yield of 5.5-5.9 t/ha.
In parallel, harvesting of rapeseed has been completed, the yield of which is estimated at 2.8-3 t/ha. Lower-than-expected oil yields are due to locally unfavorable weather conditions and significant pest damage to crops in some regions.
