It is reported that Suleiman Kerimov, a senator from Dagestan, intends to participate in the privatization of the Makhachkala seaport. This was announced by the chairman of the region's government, Abdulmuslim Abdulmuslimov, in an interview with TASS at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
Earlier, President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the establishment of the CJSC "Sever-Yug", in the authorized capital of which all shares of the Makhachkala seaport were transferred. According to the decree, a strategic investor will be provided with 51% of the company's shares, as well as the opportunity to buy out the state share in five years.
Abdulmuslimov added that Senator Suleiman Kerimov has shown interest in this project. The remaining shares of the company will remain in state ownership. In addition, a project and cost estimate documentation are currently being developed for the construction of a highway that adjoins the port and will be about 5.5 km long.
After privatization, an increase in the port's capacity is planned. Today, between 200,000 and 300,000 tons of cargo are shipped there, but it is planned to reach a shipment volume of up to 1 million tons, especially grain. In addition to this, the development of other areas is also envisaged.
