The Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation plans to determine quotas for the import of seeds in 2024 and the companies that will supply them by the end of this year, the department reports with reference to First Deputy Minister of Agriculture Oksana Lut, who took part in a round table at the Russian agro-industrial exhibition "Golden Autumn - 2023" " on Wednesday.
Recalling that on October 1 of this year, the Russian government’s decree on seed import quotas came into force, Lut said that by the end of the year, after harvesting the main crops, the Ministry of Agriculture will determine the specific volumes of quotas and the list of supplier companies for the next year. “The final parameters will be determined based on the needs of the market and domestic seed production, as well as taking into account whether the supplier has a plan to localize production in our country,” the press release says.
Among the areas of work in the field of breeding, the First Deputy Minister highlighted the task of localizing seed production in the Russian Federation. In accordance with the government decree, foreign manufacturers are required to submit appropriate plans for localizing production in Russia by March 1, 2024.
