Russia's share of wheat imports to Egypt has increased to 68%. Last year, this figure was slightly over 55%. This was announced by Akram Hossein al-Shafie, a member of the board of the Egyptian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as reported by RIA Novosti.
According to him, Russia and Ukraine account for 80% of the total wheat import volume to Egypt, which is about 8 million tons. Last year, these two countries imported 5.4 million tons. Al-Shafie noted that Russia is the main supplier of wheat to Egypt.
"Russia's share of wheat imports to Egypt has increased to 68%, which is 6.83 million tons, compared to 55.1% of the total import volume last year," he said at the international economic forum "Russia - Islamic World: KazanForum".
The expert added that in the first 10 months of 2023, wheat worth about $2.29 billion was imported from Russia. Compared to the same period in 2022, the growth was over $680 million.
