According to a survey conducted by Farm Futures among 985 US farmers from July 15 to August 1, 37.7 million hectares are planned to be planted with corn for the 2024/25 crop, which is 0.4 million hectares less than the result of the previous season.
Experts cite the drought that has been recorded in the US over the past few years as the reason for the reduction in acreage, which makes the cultivation of corn less attractive compared to soybeans, since the potential of grain crops is largely dependent on soil moisture levels.
Soybean sown area in the US in 2024/25 MY, on the contrary, may expand by 0.8 million hectares per year, to 34.6 million hectares.
It is also expected to expand the sown area under wheat - by 1.2 million hectares, up to 21.3 million tons, incl. under winter - up to 15.6 (+0.7) million hectares, under spring - up to 5.7 (+0.5) million hectares.
