On August 2, at a meeting at the Ministry of Agriculture, a representative of the department expressed the opinion that the import of sugar beet seeds to Russia should be regulated according to a "historical principle," Vedomosti reports. This means that the right to import these seeds will be granted only to those Russian companies that have previously been engaged in such supplies to the domestic market of Russia.
This meeting was attended by key participants in the sugar market in Russia. Among them are representatives of large companies such as Prodimex and Rusagro, as well as organizations that unite producers of sugar and beet seeds, including the Union of Sugar Producers of Russia (Soyuzsakhar) and Soyuzsemsvekly. The seed producer Schelkovo Agrokhim, which cooperates with JV Rusagro, was also presented.
