The factories of the Tambov region produced over 100 thousand tons of sugar from the latest harvest of beets, the regional administration reports. Five factories in the region process over 31 thousand tons of sugar beets daily. The beets are delivered directly from the fields to these factories; 80% of the million tons harvested have already been processed. Daily production is over 4 thousand tons of sugar.
This year, the sugar production plan is 550 thousand tons, which exceeds the 2022 figure (511 thousand tons). Favorable weather conditions are boosting yields this year, with a beet harvest expected to reach around 4.8 million tonnes. However, the final results will depend on the weather in the next 2-3 months, as indicated by Alena Sytova, Minister of Agriculture.
Traditionally, sugar beets are grown on the black soil of the Tambov region. This year, 104 thousand hectares were planted, and the yield per hectare has increased compared to last year. The head of the region, Maxim Egorov, emphasized that the Tambov region is among the top five leaders in Russia in the production of sugar beets and expressed hope for further strengthening of its position.
