According to monitoring by FranceAgriMer, the condition of soft wheat crops in France has been deteriorating for the second week in a row, and as of June 5, 88% of them were in good and excellent condition (against 91% a week earlier and 93% two weeks ago).
As noted, the deterioration of indicators is due to dry weather conditions in the agricultural regions of the country. After spring showers helped offset low winter rainfall, warm, dry conditions in late May have renewed worries about a repeat of the drought that France experienced last year.
However, the current figure is significantly higher than the level at the reporting date of the previous year (66%) and remains close to the maximum recorded in 2011.
The share of crops in good and excellent condition of winter barley also decreased to 87% from 88% last week, spring barley - to 89%, corn - to 88%.
