According to the forecasts of the analytical center "ProZerno," Russia is expected to see a 17% increase in buckwheat production by the end of 2022, reaching 1,068,000 tons. However, rice harvest is expected to be less successful, decreasing by 13% to 940,000 tons due to a reduction in planting areas.
Our analytical center predicts that buckwheat production will exceed 1 million tons, compared to last year's 915,000 tons. The price of buckwheat groats is currently quite high. At the same time, rice production will decrease to 940,000 tons, compared to last year's 1,076,000 tons, due to an accident at the Fedorovskoye hydroelectric complex, which led to a reduction in planting areas.
This may lead to a decrease in buckwheat prices and an increase in rice prices. However, the rise in rice prices will be insignificant due to the import component. The main crops - buckwheat and rice - will not suffer much from this. The price of millet may increase, as a small harvest is expected - only 270,000 tons of millet, compared to 368,000 tons last year.
Earlier, the analytical center "ProZerno" reported an estimated total grain harvest in Russia in 2022 of 145 million tons, with export potential ranging from 55 to 56 million tons.
